Ben – Senior Claims Adviser

Ben joined Personal Group after graduating from The University of Leeds with a degree in Environmental Science.

I have worked for Personal Group since April 2002 and have had various roles within the Claims department during that time. I am now the Senior Claims Advisor for Universal Provident, one of the Companies within Personal Group and I’m responsible for training and overseeing the claims function. I am also in charge of negotiating pricing contracts with service providers.

To be good at my job I need planning ability, time management, an attention to detail, strong communication skills, commitment and the ability to form professional relationships. I am also in the process of obtaining qualifications to become a Chartered Insurer which is developing my knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry.

A key challenge of my role is to ensure that all the decisions made in relation to claims are correct on the basis of the information provided and to ensure these decisions are promptly and appropriately communicated since any delays may, in the worst case scenario, be to the detriment of the claimant’s prognosis.

I enjoy working for Personal Group as it is large enough to provide employment stability as well as development opportunities and training for qualifications but is still just about small enough so that you can get to know everyone working within the Group. The best things about the job are: the gratitude of claimants for the service provided in ensuring cover for the treatment is promptly arranged; being able to improve the operations for the Universal Provident claims service and of course the social side of the company, such as the Christmas party.
